The Fantastic Game is a 3D exploration game developed in the Unity Engine by Fantasticaneer. It was first released as version online in early 2012, as version 1.0. An updated version, called "FANTASTIC 1.FUN," was released shortly after, on September 23rd, 2012. It became apparent that the creator has abandoned the game, because it hasn't been updated since the second version, even though at the end of the game, he mentions that "fantastic 2.0 coming soon". The Fantastic Game is the first ever created game that fits into the egg-like genre.[citation needed] The term "egglike" was coined by YouTube livestreamer and gamer Vinny from Vinesauce. In the video, he states that the game is "egg-like", referring to the amount of weirdness contained within the game, taking as an example the big, white eggs seen near the corners of the first area of the game. The "-like" suffix can be traced back to the term "roguelike," a genre of video game which was having a resurgence in popularity at the time, with popular video games such as The Binding of Isaac, and later Nuclear Throne being staples of Vinesauce streams.

In the Fantastic Game, the player's mission is to find and collect Dollaz, which serve a purpose similar to Super Mario 64's power stars or Banjo-Kazooies Jiggies. Dollaz are required to unlock and uncover normally inaccessible areas of the game, such as new areas and worlds. There are 16 Dollaz in total, many of which can be found as a reward for solving platforming sections, at the end of long hallways, or through a hidden teleporter.

The Fantastic Game makes many references to obscure art, music, video games, and pop culture. This is one of the key defining qualities of the game genre that the Fantastic Game inevitable spawned, for better or for worse.

Locations

  • Seizure chamber: A large, colorful, cylindrical chamber with one side open for the player to enter. The chamber is constantly rotating, but there are no obstacles. Upon entering the chamber, the song "bright underpants to ya chief" will play, but will stop if the player exits the building. There's a Dolla in the seizure chamber, probably one of the first Dollas collected during an initial playthrough of the game.
  • Musical rocks: Right in front of the spawn platform, there are two rows of flat, round rocks. When each of the rocks is stepped on by the player, it will play a unique musical note, similar to a bright percussion sound. The music notes do not show a programmed order and are pretty much random. Nearby is a blue, smaller rock that acts differently. This rock will play a set of specific music notes, that keeps progressively changing.
  • Colorful CUBES: A collection of cubes found near the Smash Mouth eggs. Each one has it's specific color and specific size. The only similarity found on all the cubes is the fact that the word "CUBE", with the letters fully capitalized serves as a texture for each side of them.
  • Manah Manah hallway: A long hallway that plays the song "Manah Manah" from the Muppets while the player is walking in this hallway. The music will stop when the player reach the end of it. At the end, a text saying that there's an invisible platform behind the Smash Mouth eggs and a Dolla can be found. There's a second Dolla behind the platform that is impossible to collect. If the player tries to get the Dolla, they will fall and be teleported to the Dark Room. In the Dark Room, there's a big blue eyeball that will stare at the player. Under the eye there's a Dolla that can be collected. The only way to escape the room is by teleporting back to the spawn, by pressing "G".
  • Dolla under the spawn: As the name says, there's a secret Dolla under the spawn. It's considered the first dolla collected by speed runners, due to it's location.[citation needed] Under the map lies an invisible, large platform, along with the Dolla that is surrounded by four images. The images are a chicken, some sort of cake, Richard Nixon and Dick Biondi.[citation needed]
  • Smash Mouth eggs: The Smash Mouth eggs are a group of 4 white eggs, located in the northwestern side of the first area of the game. When the player approaches the eggs, a portion of the song "All Star" by Smash Mouth can be heard playing over and over; "So much to do, so much to see...". The Smash Mouth eggs are perhaps the most well-remembered and iconic part of the Fantastic Game, and are the inspiration for the term "egg-like."[citation needed]
  • Bright underpants to ya, chief!: An invisible platform that can be seen behind the Smash Mouth eggs, which will lead to a hole and subsequently, a long tunnel. At the end of the tunnel, the player will find a dolla and a rotating image of white underpants with a smile. Under this image will be the following text: "Bright underpants to ya, chief!"
  • Fantastic Orb room & Platforming section: The Fantastic Orb is a white, floating sphere that emits light and that possess fire on top of it, and that plays the music "I Feel Fantastic" by Johnathan Coulton. It's located inside a room of the same name and serves as a platform for the Platforming section. The Platforming section, as the name says, is a small obby which is considerably difficult to do due to the fact that the game is restricted to the first-person camera, and that the platforming physics do not lend themselves to precise movement. Once the player completes the obby, they will find another Dolla, on top of a "cloud." Once the player reaches that area, a different version of the music "Propane Nightmares" by Pendulum will play until the player quits the area. The game will also tell the player that he can teleport to there whenever he wants by pressing "P".
  • Waluigi hallway & [RESTRICTED] door: Behind the Fantastic Orb room, the painting of Bob-Omb Battlefield from Super Mario 64 can be found. If the player jumps into the painting, they will be teleported to a different location and will have the option to enter two areas. The first one is the Waluigi hallway, locked by a door that can only be opened if the player has at least 1 Dolla. Once the door is unlocked, both hallways will be unlocked as well. The Waluigi hallway is a purple, long hallway that plays loud music while the player is inside. At the end, the player will find the first and only Dolla that will make for two. There is also an image that reads "Did you know that Waluigi wears cyan-eyeshadow?". The other hallway will lead to a door that reads "[RESTRICTED]" in the front, accompanied by creepy music. If the player keeps staring into the door for too long, the sky will turn black and will not change unless the player restarts the game.
  • 3 eggs, 2 chairs, 1 table: These things are located near the Bottomless pit. Once the player approaches the objects, the music called "I beg you" will play, in a highly distorted way, making it practically unrecognizable. The music was originally made by a fan and is a short parody of "All Star" by Smash Mouth.
  • Bottomless pit: A hole and a sign, located in the northeastern side of the first area. The sign warns the player not to enter the hole. If the player ignores the sign and jumps into the hole, their field of view will increase and a song called "Do you feel angry?" will play endlessly. Inside the hole there's a text saying GAME OVER and the subtitle saying "You're not human enough to be Marcos Lopez" all over the walls. This effect will remain until the player restarts the game.
  • Polybius arcade machine: An arcade machine from the creepypasta/urban legend of a mysterious, killer arcade machine called "Polybius" is found near the ramp which leads to the "psst" hallway. Currently, the player cannot interact in any way with the object. At the object, the text "Insert coin' keeps flashing in the screen, and a joystick stuck in the object can also be found. An ironic secret contained within the machine is the SCP Foundation logo written on the right side of the object.
  • "NO THING TO SEE HERE!": A very simple, yet hard to find secret in the game. Is the message "NO THING TO SEE HERE" in a green rectangle at the very edge of the west side of the ramp that leads to the "psst" hallway.
  • "Psst" hallway: The "psst" hallway is guarded by a door that can only be opened if the player has gathered at least 5 Dollaz. The hallway's walls are black, and the floor is a bridge with nothing under it. At the end of the tunnel, there's the word "psst", that is not used at any moment in the game. However, the word is used as a code in the game's site (on Tumblr) to access some secret files of the game.[citation needed]
  • Secret teleporter: Once the player exits the "psst tunnel" and goes to the right and wait for a few seconds, he will be teleported to the top of the Yellow Museum. A Dolla and a weird-looking cube can be found on top. If the Dolla is collected, a bigger version of this cube will be spawned right behind it and the music will irreversibly change.
  • Yellow Museum: The Yellow Museum is a building containing a series of 10 images and a small obby which the player will have to pass through in order to make progress.
